Toyota takes pole at the Six Hours of Spa ahead of two Ferraris
While Kamui Kobayashi held pole at the 6 Hours of Spa, Antonio Giovinazzi came and snatched it from him a few seconds before the end of the session. That’s what we believed for a few minutes, the Ferrari clan too, but the Italian’s time was canceled for going outside the limits of the track. Be that as it may, the fight was good for 15 minutes between the two animators of this start of the WEC season.
With a time of 2’00.81, the Japanese took pole in the Toyota n°7, and beat the Ferrari n°50 (Miguel Molina) by only two hundredths. Giovinazzi’s n°51, which had got off to a bad start in qualifying with a spin at La Source, and will eventually be 3rd on the grid (+0″16).
Hartley exits at the top of the Raidillon
The two Cadillacs follow, the n°2 (Earl Bamber) and the n°3 (Sébastien Bourdais), then the Porsche n°6 of Kevin Estre. The two Peugeot 9X8s finished further back, in 9th (n°93) and 11th (n°94) ranks, at 2″40 and 3″06. The session was also marked by Brendon Hartley leaving the track from the very first moment, at the top of Raidillon. Without damage to the driver, but the Toyota n°8 could not resume the session.
In the LMP2 category, Tom Blomqvist, driver of the United Autospots n°23, was the fastest, in 2’05″979. The Prema Racing n°63 of Doriane Pin is 3rd (+0″52) and the Alpines failed to do better than 10th (#35) and 11th (#36), more than a second behind. Progress is slow for the French team.
Finally, in GTE Am, it was the Aston Martin n°25 of the ORT by TF team, driven by Ahmad Al-Harthy, which set the best time in 2’17″216. The Ferrari n°83 of Richard Mille AF Corse, Lilou Wadoux’s crew, took 5th place, 2.50 behind.
