Tony Estanguet welcomes the sale of tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on the first phase and launches the second

Tony Estanguet presented a positive assessment of the first phase of ticket sales to the general public for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Despite the criticism who have been on the price of tickets for this sale by packs, the president of the Paris 2024 organizing committee was delighted with what he considers to be a success. To justify himself in the face of disputes, while recalling his desire to fill the stadiums, the triple Olympic champion insisted on the fact that the sale of tickets “is a key program in funding the Games. Ticketing accounts for a third of our income, it is a strategic issue”.

400,000 tickets sold at 24 euros

3.25 million tickets were sold, slightly more than the 3 million forecast. All for an amount that the president of Paris 2024 refused to reveal. Everyone who signed up was drawn at one time or another.

Of this total, the organizing committee indicated that 400,000 tickets to 24 euros were sold on this occasion (13% of purchases) and that 69% of sesames found a buyer at 100 euros or less. Two-thirds of the buyers are French, the others come from 158 different countries, with Great Britain, the United States and Germany being the nations most represented among the buyers.

Second phase: single tickets from March 15

This first phase completed, the second concerning single tickets will begin on March 15 with the opening of registrations on the dedicated platform in view of a new draw, a period which will last until April 20, the sale as such will begin on May 11. Barely 1.5 million tickets (including around 10% at 24 euros) will be on sale, this time with the possibility of buying tickets for the most attractive (and therefore the most expensive) sessions such as the men’s 100m final in athletics or the opening and closing ceremonies. For the ceremony on the Seine, the amount of paid places will range between 90 and 2700 euros (they will be free on the high quays), between 125 and 980 euros for the men’s 100m final and between 95 and 980 for the final men’s basketball. In total, 767 sessions will be open for sale this time.

Spectators will be able to buy up to 30 tickets (those who have already bought that total in the first phase are now offside) with a maximum of six tickets per session, or four for the most popular sessions (sixty in eleven sports ).

Other tickets for the general public will go on sale in the fall, this time without prior registration.
