The National ***embly calls for the inclusion of the Wagner Group on the list of terrorist organizations of the European Union
The deputies adopted in the National ***embly, Tuesday, May 9, a resolution asking for the inscription of the Wagner Group on the list of terrorist organizations of the European Union (EU). The mercenaries of Yevgueni Prigojine, close to Vladimir Putin, have been mobilized on the front of the war in Ukraine since the start of the invasion by Russia in February 2022.
According to the signatories of the textadopted unanimously in the afternoon, “the abuses of the Wagner Group must be qualified for what they are, that is to say terrorist acts”. This resolution invites the French government “to mobilize diplomatically” so that the EU accedes to this request, which should make it possible to more effectively sanction the members of the Wagner Group and their supporters, in particular financially.
Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna backed the parliamentary initiative from the podium: “Your message has been heard, I very much share your point of view. Nothing will be overlooked to hold this group accountable and put a definitive end to its abuses. »
