Raducanu joins Indian Wells 3rd round

Emma Raducanu (77th in the world), winner of the US Open in 2021, reached the 3rd round of the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells, beating 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 the Polish Magda Linette (21st) , Saturday in California.

The 20-year-old Briton battled to win the first set. She first had to catch up after being down 4-1, then, by being broken at 6-5, she was pushed to the tie-break, ending up having the last word by redoubled aggressiveness. The second round saw her unfold her game more quietly to finish in less than two hours. An encouraging success for Raducanu, in search of confirmation since his surprise coronation at Flushing Meadows one and a half ago.

She has been plagued with health concerns all past year, and even at the start of the season, since she had to forfeit the tournament in Austin last week because of tonsillitis. The Briton, who also suffered from a wrist before this tournament, but no longer seems to be embarrassed, will face the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia (13th) or the Czech Katerina Siniakova (45th).
