DECRYPTION – Today’s left claims to recognize commonalities with yesterday’s struggle.
The many Nupes officials in their forties have few memories of that month of December 1995. Young adolescents or grown-up children, many had felt the social fever only through the television screen, and later, in the story of the elders.
At the dawn of the mobilizations against the pension reform, this massive fight against the “Juppé plan” on pensions – already – and Social Security is nevertheless a reference on the left. It represents one of the last standoffs won by the street against an executive. “The movement had won socially and politically since there was a dissolution two years later”remembers LFI deputy Éric Coquerel, who was already pounding the pavement at the time.
