Ineos better positioned than Qatar for the takeover of Manchester United?
The sale of Manchester United by its owners, the Glazers, is progressing. According The Sun, the American family in charge would not necessarily be ready to let go of the entire club. The reason: two of the five brothers, Avram and Joel, want to stay involved in the direction of it while the other three (Kevin, Edward, Bryan) as well as their sister (Darcie) want to move away from it. Billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, owner of the Ineos chemical groupdoes not wish to buy the club in full, but only to become the majority shareholder (+50% of the shares).
Thus, he would for the moment be preferred to the Qatari sheikh Jim bin Hamad al-Thani who, like QSI funds with PSG, wants the entire club. The two candidates have recently offered their third offer to the Glazers. Even if the offer from Qatar is the highest, Ratcliffe would therefore be the favourite, allowing both the sale of the shares of the Glazers who want to move away from Manchester, while keeping those of Avram and Joel Glazer.
