Historic ascent of Yannick Glatthard in Switzerland
Discovered by Ron Koller eight years ago, it has finally been defeated. “Hall of Fame”, in the Swiss Alps, is considered one of the most difficult mixed routes (a mixture of ice and rock) in the world. “Perhaps the most demanding mixed route in this style? », writes the Swiss Yannick Glatthard, who managed the first ascent of this route called “Hall of Fame” at the beginning of March.
“Very often there is no ice in the lower parts and no pillars of ice in the upper parts, explains the Swiss. After a few very cold nights, I finally found almost perfect climbing conditions. It took me two attempts to reach the top. To finally be able to scale this massive 30m high, 15m free-hanging ice candle in the upper part of the route is a world of dreams for me. “The ‘Hall of Fame’ has it all – technically, physically and mentally!”
