The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, affirmed, Sunday, May 14, in an interview with the newspaper Opinion that he intended to pursue a policy of lower taxation of the middle cles, in order to better remunerate work.

“We must pursue a trajectory of tax cuts on our middle cles. For what ? Because if we want to continue to take the country on board, we still need to restore credibility at work”he said in this interview published online Sunday evening.

“However, today, we help a lot people who are in distress, who have dropped out. We help low salaries a lot, and we have done more with the activity bonus”continued the Head of State, who is seeking to regain control after the painful pension crisis.

“But the taxation of middle-cl income is too high and is accelerating too quickly. It crushes purchasing power gains between 1,500 and 2,500 euros. I am talking about those who are too rich to be helped and not rich enough to live well”he specified.

He added that during his first five-year term, taxes had been reduced by 52 billion euros, in equal shares for households and businesses. “When you look at the period 2010-2014, the tax increases have almost all been made on the middle cles and small traders”he said again.

On the business side, he believes that France should equip itself with“a mechanism which makes it possible to improve industrial jobs or the jobs of craftsmen and traders”.

“The denial of reality”

“First, we must implement the reform, continued Emmanuel Macron. Then, I think that the work of conviction must continue. » He also explained that he was hit in the general debate” by “denial of reality”. “Some claimed that the reform could be avoided, without saying what they were proposing instead. Also, on June 8, Parliament will examine the LIOT group’s bill aimed at repealing the pension reform… For the majority, this will be an opportunity to continue to explain our project. »

Regarding the financing of this bill ” to 15 billion euros, the Head of State explained: “Some people say ‘big money has to pay’. Let’s not lie to ourselves: the middle cles will also have to pay. This is the truth. All those who contribute to the denial of reality are preparing for the arrival of extremes. »

“The heart of the battle behind this pension reform is ‘working more’”, he erted. “And one of the weaknesses of France is to have lived in the fiction of a sharing of work on a macroeconomic scale which would make it possible to get rich and produce more by working less. It’s not true! »

The Head of State explained that he did not share the opinion of those who claim that 64 years is two years of life sacrificed. “No, work, even if I do not underestimate that it is not always easy, it is what allows you to build a future, for yourself, for your childrenhe ured. I want to say to the beautiful souls who are proposing to have an ever more generous social model by working less, to these people who are building disaster: what are they proposing, apart from more debt and less sovereignty for the finance? »
