Four players spent in the two clubs … and the two coaches
If they are geographically distant, FC Nantes and Toulouse FC are quite close “footballistically”. In the sense that several players have already played in the opposing club. Indeed, among the Canaries, they are three to have worn the colors of the Violets: Alban Lafont and Moussa Sissoko – who were even trained within the formation of the Pink City – and Andy Delort. Among the Toulousains, Maxime Dupé evolved on the banks of the Loire; he was even trained there. In addition, the two coaches also knew the two teams. Antoine Kombouaré had a (very) short experience on the banks of the Garonne between October 2019 and January 2022. And Philippe Montanier played a season at FC Nantes, in 1990-1991.

Toulouse could be deprived of the European Cup … even if they win
Usually, the club that wins the Coupe de France – if it does not get its ticket to the Champions League through the championship – plays in the Europa League the following season. But this year, it could be different if Téfécé were to lift the trophy. The reason is simple: in June 2022, the American investment fund RedBird Capital Partners – which bought Toulouse in the summer of 2020 – became the majority shareholder of AC Milan. And according to UEFA regulations (article 5), two clubs belonging to the same owner cannot play in the same European competition. Thus, if the Milanese club, current fourth in Serie A, qualifies for the C3, the club of the Pink City could be deprived of Europe…. but also if it qualifies for the C1 since it could be transferred to C3 after the group stage.
In the event that the two teams would reach a European cup, it is UEFA which would determine which (and only) of the two could participate. The criteria are simple: priority is given to the most competitive competition.prestigious» then to the highest ranked club in its league. Suffice to say that the Rossoneri would be preferred to the Violets (12e of League 1). For the two teams to compete in Europe, RedBird Capital Partners would have to withdraw from one of the two clubs.

FC Nantes could score a second double
This Saturday, the Canaries have the opportunity to enter a little more into the history of the Coupe de France. Indeed, in the event of victory against the Violets, Antoine Kombouaré and his men, who lifted the trophy last year, would achieve the club’s second double in the competition after that of 1999-2000. Only six other teams have already managed to win the event two seasons in a row: Paris SG – three times -, Girondins de Bordeaux, AS Saint-Étienne, LOSC, RC Paris, Olympique de Marseille and the Red Star AC.

Toulouse FC is doing well at FC Nantes in the Coupe de France. The two teams have only faced each other twice in the competition since 1970 and the creation of the Garonne club.
